Planning & Community Health Associate

The American Planning Association (Washington DC location) seeks a qualified and motivated planner (with experience or education that is related to public health) OR public health professional (with experience or education in planning) to work under the direction of the Manager of the Planning and Community Health Research on projects at the intersection of planning and health involving applied research, education, outreach, and policy.

Background and Job Description

This full-time position requires education and experience in urban and regional planning plus
knowledge about the health benefits of sound planning. Candidates must demonstrate well developed research, writing, and presentation skills, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively with in-house colleagues and with outside academics and practitioners, NGOs and government agencies.
 
Candidates should demonstrate an ability to develop programs and projects from conception to final implementation. They should also demonstrate knowledge of the complex relationships that exist between urban planning and community health, particularly air and water quality, climate change,obesity prevention, and other related issues.

Requirements:

Qualifications

Candidates must have a master’s degree in planning (with experience or education that is related to public health) OR a master’s degree in public health (with experience or education in planning). All candidates must have at least 1-3 years professional working experience in the planning or public health fields. A duel degree in planning and public health is preferred. AICP designation is preferred, or without AICP, a commitment to attain certification within 18 months of hire. Salary is commensurate with experience.

  • Experience with planning and health issues related to climate change, air and water quality, and obesity prevention
  • Demonstrated excellence in achievement
  • Familiarity with Web 2.0 applications
