Position Description: The Prince George’s County Planning Department of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission is seeking an experienced Planning Supervisor for the Urban Design Section of the Development Review Division. The Urban Design Section processes conceptual and detailed site plans, comprehensive and specific design plans, departures, special permits, and recreational facilities review.

The Planning Supervisor position will provide a leading role in supervising a unit which includes: managing a staff of six professional designers and planners and one technician in coordination and negotiation with developers, consultants, and all other interested parties regarding development applications subject to discretionary review by the Planning Board; reviewing technical staff reports and plans; developing and training staff in planning policy and procedures; conducting staff meetings, assigning/monitoring work, and evaluating annual performance measures of the Urban Design Section.

This position is a regular source of expertise within the deliberations of the Planning Board, County Executive and County Council. The Planning Supervisor will be working with a professional team of project managers and planners and providing comments on proposed legislation. We are looking for a multi-faceted and articulate supervisor with good design and writing skills who can respond to sensitive and complex inquiries or requests for information from citizens, developers, engineers, architects, and attorneys about proposed developments, Planning Board actions, laws, and regulations.

Planning Supervisor: Master’s degree in planning, architecture, parks, engineering, environmental science, public administration, or related fields and six years of progressively responsible professional level planning experience that includes at least three years of supervisory experience or project leadership and coordination experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
