Position Description: The Montgomery County Planning Department in Silver Spring has an opening for a Senior Planner in Area 3 to review Natural Resource Inventory/Forest Stand Delineations, Forest Conservation Plans, Preliminary Plans, Site Plans and Conditional Use applications.   This position provides an opportunity to work with a team that will help guide future development in the more rural areas of Montgomery County, Maryland extending from Potomac, north to Clarksburg and Damascus, and east to Olney and Fairland.

Ideal candidates must possess experience in the identification of trees, plants, wetlands, streams and soils and must be able to conduct field investigations. Candidates must be able to work in a team environment and draw upon interdisciplinary reviewers in preparing development review applications. Candidates must possess strong analytic capabilities, experience and interest in master planning, environmental planning, and agricultural and rural open space preservation. Strong oral and written communication skills, experience with GIS and PC based planning and mapping programs, interest and ability to work directly with the public on technical issues and the ability to work successfully in a multi-disciplinary setting are required.

The primary tasks include providing environmental input on development applications and taking a lead review on subdivisions, site plans and conditional use applications. On occasion, the Candidate will provide input into the preparation of master plans or other special planning projects.   The selected candidate will be required to coordinate land use recommendations with other agencies, prepare technical reports, meet regulatory deadlines, use electronic tracking databases, deliver presentations to the Planning Board, attend civic association meetings, and respond to information requests from residents, developers, planners, architects, engineers, attorneys and public officials. Fieldwork and occasional evening meetings are required.

Note: Applicants will be participating in a development review exercise following the interview which will require the preparation of a memo.
