The City of Dover Department of Planning & Inspections is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Planner I. The essential function of this position is to research, analyze, and summarize data to support the Planning staff and to perform plan review for development plans. Additional responsibilities will include providing technical assistance to City customers for planning and zoning compliance; working with developers to facilitate resolution of planning-related issues/problems; performing technical reviews of site development plans for compliancewith ordinances, policy, and planning principles; developing legal notices reports, and maps for the Planning Commission and other appointed boards and commissions; gathering and analyzing data/information to support periodic and special reports for area of responsibility; researching and authoring text for ordinance text amendments, annexations, and special projects; reviewing building and sign permits and Business Licenses for compliance and making determinations on whether to approve permits, and licenses; handling customer inquiries and complaints; inspecting physical sites for certificate of occupancy; providing technical expertise on computer software applications to co-workers; attending staff and other professional meetings to exchange information including presentations to such groups.
This position requires a bachelor’s degree in planning, public administration, landscape architecture, geography or closely related field along with a minimum of one year of related experience; a master’s degree is preferred. Certification from the American Institute of Certified Planners is preferred and experience with Geographic Information Systems is required.
