Position Description:

The Fairfax County Office of Community Revitalization is seeking to hire an entry-level employee with a degree in a design-related field for a limited-term position averaging 30 hours/week. The term is expected to last one to two years.

The Office of Community Revitalization is responsible for overseeing the redevelopment of a number of the County’s activity centers and transit-oriented districts, including Tysons and Reston. The office is comprised of a diverse group of professionals with backgrounds in planning, architecture, and landscape architecture and works on a variety of design projects including visioning and master planning studies, design charrettes, community workshops, and develops design standards with the goal of creating placemaking opportunities and enhancing the quality of projects constructed within the County.

The office has a broad range of projects that this position will be expected to work on including design work related to the development of and updates to urban design guidelines for transit-oriented development areas, cross-sections for complete streets, master planning for small areas, participating in public design charrettes, and assisting the office in communicating ongoing work to the community, such as producing brochures and final reports. The Urban Design Tech will work under the direction of design professionals and staff in support of these projects.  The ideal candidate will be self-managing and able to balance competing deadlines. It is expected that a substantial amount of time will be spent in production of graphics and documents.

The position is expected to begin in March, 2016, is hourly pay, and includes health benefits.  Training credits for landscape architecture candidates are available.  The selection procedure will include a panel interview, portfolio review, and a brief proficiency test using the Adobe Creative Suite.
